Sherry Ann Highsmith Crouch, 78, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2025 with family after a long, valiantly fought battle with Alzheimer's.
Sherry was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 19, 1946 to her precious parents, Harold D and Anna Lucille Highsmith. She was a proud, lifelong resident of Fort Worth and it was during her time at Arlington Heights High School that she met and fell in love with the man of her dreams, Larry F. Crouch. It wasn't long after being set up on their first blind date that they knew they were meant to be. She married Larry when she was a mere 17 years old, and they were inseparable until his sudden death in 2000. They had two daughters, Lauralei & Shelley, and their world revolved around their family. When the kids were young, they spent almost every single weekend on their boat at Benbrook Lake, fishing, picnicking and having the time of their lives. As time moved on, those weekends evolved into gatherings at the Crouch house. Every Sunday, Sherry cooked a huge dinner and the house was full of people, laughter and fun. Sunday dinner was a family tradition for Larry growing up, and Sherry was proud to carry that tradition on for many years thereafter.
When the grandkids began to arrive, Sherry went from being Mom, to becoming Nanny. She wasn't just Nanny to her own grandkids, but to all kids who knew her. Her door was forever open to anyone, and her home was always full of family, friends and love. It was nothing to show up to her house and find not only all of her kids and grandkids, but a plethora of their friends as well. Nanny would be cooking a big pot of her famous spaghetti or grilling out hamburgers and hot dogs. Hosting 15, 20 or more people was just a normal weekend at Nanny's house. No one ever left her house hungry after spending the day laughing so hard that your cheeks hurt.
Not only did Larry and Sherry host dinners every weekend, but their house was also where every family holiday was spent. Everyone always knew where they were going to celebrate. Birthdays, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Her Thanksgiving feast was not to be rivaled by anyone, and Christmas at the Crouch house was absolutely unforgettable. Those memories will be forever precious to us all.
Although we will miss her dearly and forever mourn her absence, we will take solace in knowing that she is finally reunited with her one true love, whom she never stopped missing, as well as so many others that passed before her. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Crouch; parents, Harold and Lucille Highsmith; brother, Charles Highsmith; sister-in-law, Paula VonLuckner and a host of people that were so very important to her that you cannot refer to them as merely friends, but extended family. Notably, Richard & Linda Johnson, James & Barbara Bocks, and Brock & Cherrie Smith.
Sherry leaves behind a family who will forever strive to carry on her legacy of love, including her daughters, Lauralei Allen-Crouch & husband Freddie Allen, and Shelley Renee' Inman & husband Bryan Inman. Her grandchildren, Mary Anna Crouch; Amber Teel (Chris); Freddie Lemmons; Christian Hamilton; Brandon Hamilton; Ashton Hamilton (Chuy); Ashley Hull (Jared); and Curt Inman. Great grandchildren, Damian Jeffery, Nailah Teel, Aleena Teel, Christian Hamilton Jr, Harmony Hamilton, Elliott Hamilton, Madeline Hamilton, Clarence Trae Jennings, Adriana Vasquez, Jayden Vasquez, Adrian Vasquez, Lennox Hull, Lilly Hull, Mackenzie Inman and Lucas Inman. Other family, Judy Highsmith; Dennis Scott (Barbara); David VonLuckner (Miki); Lisa Morton (Charles); Shirley Jean Vaughn; Jerry King; Shirley Townley; Doris Crouch and Debra Richie as well as many extended family and friends. Nanny possessed a beautiful, kind spirit that just naturally attracted people to her. To know her was to love her, and she was adored by so very many.
Shelley and Bryan also want to extend special recognition to two family members who have been there every single moment, through thick and thin and have been a source of immeasurable help and love with Mom as we navigated through the toughest times of our lives here at our home with her. Thank you Debra Richie and Shirley Townley. We don't know what we would have done without your grace, love and support, and we are eternally grateful for you.
Services for Sherry Crouch will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home & Memorial Park on Monday, January 20th, 2025 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please help a family in need or send a donation to a charity close to your heart. Although flowers are always pretty, we believe that "paying it forward" is a much more beautiful choice.
