It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Steven Ray McWilliams who left us on March 23, at the age of 80. Born on February 1, 1945 in Sulphur Springs, TX, he was the elder son of Clovis R. McWilliams and Pansy Woodard McWilliams. The family soon moved to Fort Worth and Steve graduated from Brewer High School in May, 1963.
Most of his career was spent at General Dynamics/Lockheed where he was a machinist for 46+ years. He was a proud member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and was a union steward for several years. He walked the picket line during strikes and was interviewed and pictured in a newspaper article in 2012. Steve enjoyed reading military and US history books and was a 45+ year member of the early Ford V8 Club where he held various offices. Yearly club outings in his 1937 Ford were a highlight. Another favorite activity was joining family members at the “hunting ranch” owed by his brother. These get-togethers were great times of reminiscing, story-telling, joking, enjoying each other's company, and maybe a little hunting or target-shooting. Steve always brought donuts when he knew young folks would be there. Many weekends Steve could be found visiting swap meets, the flea market at Will Rogers, or First Monday in Canton.
Steve always gave his best in every endeavor. His knowledge of car mechanics was immense. He could often be found puttering around in his garage wearing his favorite uniform of khaki pants and a T-shirt.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila of 49 years and his parents. He is survived by sons John and Kenneth and a daughter Stephanie as well as grandchildren Cheyenne, Everett, and Sienna, his brother Stan, a niece, nephew, several aunts, uncles and cousins, whom he loved and who loved him in return.
