He was born on October 16, 1946, in Minot North Dakota, to Edward and Opal Lyon.
Terry joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served his country for the next 25 years. Through determination and hard work, Terry achieved Chief Warrant Officer and retired as CWO4. He was a mentor and friend to many and was highly regarded as a “Gunner’s Gunner”. He had remained in close contact with the Ordnance and Intruder community continuing the camaraderie he enjoyed while serving in the Navy. Following his service, Terry became a long haul truck driver, a career that allowed him to continue to travel and connect with friends and family across the country. Following his retirement, Terry enjoyed golfing, bowling and visiting friends and family with a nice meal.
Terry met the love of his life, Faye, while visiting his hometown of Devil’s Lake, North Dakota on military leave. And after 11 short days (and with the objections of many) he married her. They beat all odds and remained happily married for over 41 years until her death. Terry took on the selfless act of taking care of Faye through her battle with Alzheimer’s showing tremendous patience and love. Together, they had three children: Dena, Janell and Terrence Jr.
Terry was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel “Faye” Borgen, daughter Dena Johnson, his parents Edward and Opal (Christianson) Lyon, and his brother Tom Lyon. Terry is survived by his daughter Janell (Lyon) Phillips, son Terrence Lyon, grandchildren Zachary, Coleman, Hanna, Braxton and Conner, brother Ted (Mary) Lyon, sister Judi (John) Mouw, sister Patti Jo (Kevin) Miles, sister in-law Sue Lyon, brother in-law Tom (Nola) Borgen, brother in-law Turrie Borgen, sister in-law Shelley (Wally) Bedard, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and special friend Lou Kropff.
