Tommy was born to Ivison Brown and Katherine Phillips on July 19, 1946 in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from IM Terrell and shortly after was drafted into the Army. He fought and was wounded in the Vietnam War.
Much of his professional career was in management and sales. He was the first Black person hired to a management position for Ward’s drug store.
Tommy Loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a member of the Potters House church and participated with several different groups within the church. He also volunteered time and efforts in community focused groups outside of the church.
In his free-time Tommy enjoyed music and singing. He Loved building R/C planes, cars and boats. He also played and won in several billiards leagues over the course of his life.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sylvia and their four children, Sandra, Tommy Jr, Daniel and Jolanta. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Brown and 13 grandchildren. Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Katherine and Ivison.
Tommy fought battles against a number of health issues later in life. Despite spending much of that time in and out of hospitals, he never lost his sense of humor or his determination to share the word of God in daily devotionals, which he would write himself and send out via text. He Loved being able to share a kind and uplifting word. Throughout his journey, he cracked jokes with his grown children, sang silly songs with his grandchildren and even pulled a few light- hearted pranks on his wife, Sylvia. He was blessed with an ability to make others smile. He will be greatly missed.
