

A Memorial Service will be held at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Green Oaks School, 5508 Chaperito Trail, Arlington, 76016.
She was born October 14, 1926 in Barker, New York, one of twin daughters of Clarence and Clara Hare. Velsa Joyce and her twin sister, Velma Jean were two of ten children. Velsa Joyce attended Barker High School where she played first chair clarinet. Following graduation, she and her sister went to work in Lockport, New York as secretaries. In 1947, Velsa married Norman Edwards. She followed him around the United States and England during his 20 year military career.They retired in El Paso, where she enjoyed competing in bowling tournaments, making lace draped dolls, ceramics, tole painting, working as a credit manager at JC Penneys, and spending time with family and friends. In 1986, Norman and Joyce moved to Fort Worth, to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Velsa Joyce had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, especially granddaughter Cynthia Lee Shannon, who has Down Syndrome. Velsa Joyce spend many happy hours playing games, babysitting, and attending special events with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clyde Hymel and Mrs. Bill Shannon of Ft. Worth; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Velma Jean Schulwitz of Rochester, New York, Mrs. Audrey Townsend of Logan, Ohio, Mrs. Marian Riley of El Paso; one brother, Mr. Richard Hare of Gasport, New York; one brother-in-law, Mr. Carlton Edwards of Chaparral, New Mexico; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Beverly Edwards of Albion, New York, and Mrs. LaVern Hare of Glendale, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Edwards's family would like to thank Community Hospice of Texas for the loving care they provided Velsa Joyce during her battle with cancer.
