

Vernia Stene Dickens was born on March 28, 1940 in Elysian Fields, Texas to the parentage of Albertus and Bertha Mobley. Vernia attended James E. Guinn, Como Elementary and Como Jr. High. She was a graduate of Como High School Class of 1958'.
After high school, Vernia met and married Mr. Dickens in 1959. To this union 3 children were born, Angela Michelle, Gerald Bernard and Cedric Lamont. Vernia received her certification in Clerical Skill Management. She was employed with the City of Fort Worth as the Administrative Assistant for more than 30 years. She enjoyed a good game of Dominoes, playing cards and shooting pool. She also loved to cook. Vernia was a faithful member of the Strangers Rest Baptist Church in Lake Como since her younger years. She loved the Lord and she loved her church and community.
On December 5, 2021, Vernia heard and answered to the Master's call from Labor to Reward. She now joins the great cloud of witnesses which include her parents, her late husband and all 3 of her children. Those who are left to cherish her precious memories are her sister, Bobbie Tarpley; nephews, Gregory Mobley (Lisa), Lenard Johnson (Debra); many grand nieces, nephews, and a host of dear and cherished friends.
