

Vertella Layne Austin was the first born of eight children born February 3, 1940 to parents Mable Lofton and William Lofton Sr.
Vertella accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour and was a diligent servant of the Lord. She joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Worth Texas, where she served as a faithful member, usher, and leader under the Leadership of Pastor Albert E Chew Sr.
Vertella was a band member and graduate of M.L Kirkpatrick class of 1958. She graduated from TCJC with an Associate Degree in Business.
She was a longtime resident of Fort Worth "NorthSide" devoted to volunteering her time, participating in organizing the Juneteenth Events each year, and serving in her community in many other ways.
She was very outgoing and active yet very conservative, fashionable, and classy. Gifted with a kind quiet spirit Vertella always had an open door for anyone in need.
She enjoyed, loved and valued her family, made life-long friendships, and really enjoyed "life" and worshiping the LORD. Vertella has three loving children, Rickett Layne, Truitt Layne and Nichole Layne from marriage to Billy R Layne(preceded in death) Vertella later shared a loving marriage with Billy Harold "Hollywood" Austin Sr. (preceded in death). Vertella began employment at Lockheed(formerly General Dynamics) August 8, 1977, and worked in Administration. She retired after dedicating over 40 years as a faithful and pioneering leader. Vertella is preceded in death by her parents Mable Lofton and William Lofton Sr, her brothers William Lofton jr,Ronald Lofton, Dale Lofton
and sister Evelyn Lofton.
Vertella was a loving and caring mother,grandmother, sister,aunt, and friend, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the age of 83. She leaves to mourn her sons Rickett Layne(Janice), Truitt Layne, daughter Nichole Layne, grand children Rickett Layne, Russell Layne, Tafonya Wingfield,Ebonee Roberson, Mia Layne, great grand children Serenity Wingfield,Ryleigh Nicole Layne,Zoe Quinn Layne, Isaac Bailey Layne,Deshun Roberson, Dontae Davis; sisters, Carroll Vaughn(Robert) and Edna Lofton Thomas(Kenneth); brother, Irving Lofton, sister- in- law Shirley Lofton(Dale) and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
