Vicki Lee Schopmeyer went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her loved ones on September 17, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. She was beloved for her joy, compassion, and selfless desire to serve anyone she encountered. She was seventy-two years old.
Vicki was born in Dallas, Texas and went to Robert E. Lee high school in Tyler, Texas. Though she endured a difficult childhood of health complications and challenges at home, she found hope in her personal relationship with Jesus, and she often referred to him as her best friend. She completed her education at Texas Christian University with a degree in interior design.
Vicki had a great love for music and began playing piano at an early age. She frequently went to church by herself throughout childhood and was nurtured through the ministry of Park Cities Baptist Church, among others. Even then, the Lord was forming a strong, resilient woman who found her hope in Him.
Whether cleaning houses as a young mother, working in the insurance industry, or her 26-year career at Pier 1 Imports in property management, she completed tasks with excellence and attention to every detail. Even up to the weeks preceding her passing, she brought that same excellence, mixed with her joyful spirit, to make calls to her son’s business clients.
Bethesda Community Church was her church home for the past 40 years. Her spiritual development blossomed under the leadership of pastors like Des Evans and Dan Smith. She loved the worship ministry and enjoyed singing in the choir.
In her later years, she cherished her prayer group, fellow prayer warriors, and friends in her community. As a family, we thank you for the love and care you gave to her, and we are recipients of your ministry through her.
She cherished family and would tell you her greatest accomplishments were her two children and five grandchildren. Beyond her immediate family, everyone who encountered Vicki knew they could find a mother’s love and compassion in her.
Although she has endured three major diseases for years, many would not know it. She was a strong woman, and even spent her last moments asking about others and giving us instructions on how to bless them. She loved the Lord, had a giant heart, and we will miss her tremendously, but we have peace that we will see her again in heaven with her best friend.
Vicki’s parents were Ted and Lou Campbell. She is survived by her sister Karen Shelmire; beloved children Sara Lara and Chris Schopmeyer; children-in-law (in-love as she often referred) Ben Lara and Maya Schopmeyer; nieces Camie Shelmire and Bunchie Engel; grandchildren Josie, Carlie, Ava, Kaitlyn, and Joshua; and her cherished dog, Chloe.
Visitation will be held at Bethesda Community Church on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 9 AM. The funeral service will follow at 10 AM. An additional opportunity to greet the family will follow the funeral. Bethesda is located 4700 N. Beach Street, Fort Worth, TX 76137.
