Vinh was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He and his family fled Vietnam as refugees in 1975 at the end of war. The family started their new life in Lawrence, Kan., which his family refers to as their adopted hometown.
Survivors: Wife, Anh Nguyen; children, Tuan & Liang Chieu, Nga & Derek Huynh, Minh & Thuy Chieu, Hanh & Scott Badger, Long & Nancy Chieu, and Alexander Chieu; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Muoi Chieu, Tai Chieu, Luong Chieu, Hien Chieu, and Thuy Nguyen.
