Mrs. Willie Mae Westbrook

My name is Willie Mae Carroll Westbrook - born June 15, 1925 to Jim and Dillie Carroll. I was born and raised on my family owned 175 acres of black land farm in Kerens, Texas. When God made me He broke the mold.

I finished Good Night High School in Samaria Community.

In 1943 I left Kerens to go to Houston to attend Hughes School of Business. I worked several jobs then I left in 1944 to go to San Francisco, California where I worked at Hunters Point Naval Dry Dock. In 1945 my mother passed and my Dad wanted me to come back to Texas. In July 1945 I came back to Fort Worth and worked at Armors Packing Company, Marvin Shelton Grocery Store, Alexander Grocery Store - Fair Department Store, Health Studios, A. G. Blind Company, Natatorium Laundry, Harris Hospital Central Supply later to be a Harris Hospital Elevator Operator. Part time I worked at Como Theatre and the United States Post Office. I went to Beauty School and received my State license. I worked for Vernon's West Cliff Beauty Salon for 8 years, E.M. Daggett School as a Teacher's Aide. I worked several private homes but my final stop was with Cedar Hill Memorial Park front office for 20 years and retired in January 1989. My parents trained me well to earn-my-own way! Never be idle.

Joe and I were married in Fort Worth, Texas September 17, 1947 after knowing each other from elementary school in Kerens, Texas. For over 68 years of marriage we truly were a match that was made in heaven.

I enjoyed reading and writing poetry, sewing, driving by car sightseeing all over the USA - including two trips to the White House. Love cruising, going to Africa, Hawaii, and Cozumel Mexico.

I loved my Zion Missionary Baptist Church where I taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and Baptist Training Union. I was a Usher, Deaconess, attended Prayer Services and Bible Study. For over 55 years Joe and I would help with the Christmas fruit and nuts distribution.

I LOVE ALL my precious nephews, nieces, cousins and my entire beloved ZION MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH FAMILY.
