

He graduated from Michigan Tech (MTU) in Houghton, Mich., earning a bachelor's degree of science in metallurgical engineering. He earned his master's degree in nuclear engineering from SMU. He worked at General Dynamics, 1953-1991, on the electron microscope doing failure analysis for the B-58 Haussler, F-111 Aardvark, and the F-16 Fighting Flacon. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy, obtaining the rank of photographer's mate third class. He was stationed at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Guantanamo, Cuba, and was honorably discharged in 1948.
Zygfried was married to his beloved Danuta on May 29, 1954, for 60 years. They started a family in 1958. He enjoyed rock hounding, lapidary, faceting, jewelry making, designing jewelry, casting using the lost wax process, teaching his hobbies, and camping. He was a lifetime member of the ASM International (American Society for Metals). He was a member of Fort Worth Cowtown Gem, Mineral & Glass Club, Tarrant County Travelers of the National Camping & Hiking Association, Polania Club, General Dynamics Sports Car Club and St. Andrews Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Danuta; parents; sister, Camilla Wolanska; brother and sister-in-law, Henry Stanley and Vicki Wolanski Sr.; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Warlow and Theresa Ann Wolanski; sister-in-law, Irene and Lucian Wampuszcy; nephew, Eric Wolanski; and many family members in Poland and the United States.
Survivors: His children, Lisa Francis (Robert), Nina Russo (Ray) and Michael Wolanski (Delores); he is the proud grandfather of Sarah and Grace; extended family; and friends.
