It was Charis who was the inspiration for me to go to Clarke School just two years after she was there. While I failed to become a teacher of the deaf, going instead into speech pathology, we felt a common interest. When visiting my parents in Rochester, I would also see Charis and Vernon. Just last week, I found in my Christmas things a book of Christmas poems she gave me as a thank you for being included in an extended family gathering Andy and I hosted at Christmas time at a hotel as a thank you to those who hosted us when we would come into Rochester. I last saw her one summertime at the farm in Parkman, and we walked the family fields.

I met Charis when we were teachers at Rochester School for the Deaf. We remained friends for many years. We took 2 trips to Europe with Charis and Vern. Sorry we could not keep in touch with her in recent years. Sara and Scott are in our thoughts and prayers.

Charis and I worked together at RCSD School #1. She mainstreamed her hearing- impaired kindergarten into my regular Ed kindergarten several days a week. She was a wonderful co- worker and taught me a great deal about the hearing impaired population. She was so gentle and giving to all her students - an excellent role model to others and certainly a memorable teacher! May she Rest In Peace...

Over the last 20 years I was hoping to see Charis at one of our reunions… Ironically Charis and I were very close ,almost like brother and sister… As I was with Martha Hodsdon and so many other girls in our class ,in whom I could have “safe haven“… Yeah for those of you who wonder I was at best a true geek. But in Charis I found a beautiful person, an incredibly intelligent person ,but more importantly a soulful person who was predictable… I found her dry sense of humor enlightening and very telling about her nature as a wonderfully fun person to have as a friend…I’m thinking of the family at this time and sending them my fondest regards and sad recollection of her loss.
