Evangelista Fiol

Ms. Evangelista "Eva" Fiol, 72, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026, at her home in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, following a battle with cancer. Born in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Luis Fiol and Evangelista Rosario. She moved to the Boston suburbs as a child, where she settled and raised her family. Throughout her life, she worked as a medical assistant, retail manager, and homemaker.

Ms. Fiol overcame many challenges in her youth, including foster care, and through resilience and determination, she established a better life for herself and her children. She was an avid and talented cook of Puerto Rican recipes and loved music and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She found her greatest joy in her family's love and company, and in hosting people at her home.

She is survived by her three daughters, Lucylenia Perez (Jorge Perez), Maritza Cruz, and Brunilda Cruz; two sons, Angel Cruz and Daniel Cruz (Alexander Freidin); and one foster son, Luis Torres. She was preceded in death by her son, Freserino Cruz. Ms. Fiol also leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of strength and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Ms. Fiol's children will return her to Puerto Rico, and a private ceremony will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, you may express sympathy in Ms. Fiol's memory with a donation to the American Cancer Society of Puerto Rico here: Sociedad Americana Contra el Cáncer de Puerto Rico.
