
He is survived by his three daughters, Rev. Faith Tolson (Darryl Steward) of Framingham, Leslie Booth and (Russell) of Burlington, NJ, Anne Bridges (Jay) of Hampstead, NC; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 59 years, Caroline Louise (Seth); brothers, Edmund and James; sisters, Florence Wilson, Ruth Richmond, Kathleen Lewis and Clementine.
Born in Boston, to the late Alfred and Mary, he was a WWII Army Sargent. A graduate of Boston University, he was a staff reporter at New Journal in Norfolk, VA. From there he worked at the Boston Traveler from 1955 to 1968. He broke the newsroom barrier by being the first African American news reporter in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He went on to WHDH where he worked as an on-air news reporter. He went on to work for the government in the Department of Health and Human Services. George was a member of multiple committees, most notably the Board of Directors for the Committee to End Elder Homelessness.
George, a longtime resident of Natick, was an avid reader, gardener and sports enthusiast. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2018.
