
A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Manahan was born in Palmer on April 6, 1923. From April 28, 1943 to March 1, 1946 he volunteered for service in the U.S. Navy. He saw deployment in World War II on a Naval escort vessel in the Pacific and African theaters and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theatre Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal for his dedicated service.
Upon returning from service, Mr. Manahan attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, studying engineering. He went on to join the burgeoning computer industry as part of Computer Control Company in Oxnard, California, before joining the Honeywell Corporation where he worked on advanced computer systems for both military and private sector projects until his retirement in 1986.
Outside of his career, Mr. Manahan was an avid scuba diver and fisherman, and a lifelong visitor to the White Mountains. Mr. Manahan was also a decorated Eagle Scout and a 70-year Master Mason.
Mr. Manahan was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Marian Louise (Pike) Manahan, his second wife of 26 years, Delma (Calderan) Manahan, his eldest daughter Linda Joyce Witherell, his parents, John I. Manahan, and Bernice (Flint) Manahan, and his brother John F. Manahan.
He leaves five daughters, Carol (Anni Jensen) Manahan of Richmond CA, Susan (Charles) Krummel of Lilburn, GA, Bernice G. Manahan, Leslie (Robert) Saporetti of Ashland MA, and Rachel (George) Calado of Sutton MA, and 11 grandchildren – George, Abigail, Max, Warner (Morraine), Erin, Freeman, William, Audrey, John, Benjamin, and Nicholas., an extended family that spans both coasts and even as far as China.
