FRAMINGHAM – John A. Patti, 94, a lifelong resident of Framingham, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
Born on September 17, 1923 in Framingham, he was the son of Charles and Antoinette (Corrente) Patti.
Devoted father of Charles Patti of Framingham; loving brother of Dorothy Collotta of Southboro; proud uncle of many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anna (Pagucci) Patti, in 1983; also, by his siblings, Andrew Patti, Lena Trombi, Florence Toscano, Mary Douglas, Eleanor Capellos, Angela Surro, Rita Mendillo and Joseph Patti.
After meeting his wife Anna, the Patti’s spent many years traveling around the US. He was a sought-after partner on the dance floor as well as the golf course. He was an avid golfer having achieved 6 holes in one in the years that he played, two of which were accomplished in his ninetieth year at Juniper Hill Golf Course.
Mr. Patti was a gifted story teller recalling every detail of the events of his life. His sharp mind served him well in his later years while doing his much-loved crosswords and sudoku puzzles.
Mr. Patti’s most interesting stories where about his 6 years of service in the United States Navy from 1942 – 1948. While serving on the USS Jerauld, he traveled to Japan, Okinawa, Guam, New Caledonia and the new Hebrides Islands. He was on the first supply ship to Nagoya, Japan, and the first to arrive with occupational troops in Okinawa. His stories included tales of being in the last battle of WW II, running into a boa constrictor in the jungles of Zamboanga, a close encounter with Japanese troops and surviving Typhoon Louise in the South Pacific where he said a prayer to his mother in Italian to keep him safe through the violent storm. Mr. Patti’s WWII journals are chronicled with photos at the Natick Historical Society. Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Patti worked as a mechanic for several years then owned an auto parts store in Framingham for many years.
The family would like to thank all the caring and dedicated staff of the Elliott Center in Natick, especially Lizzy and Ina, for their exceptional care of Mr. Patti.
Graveside memorial service will be held at 11AM on Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Tarcisius Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Framingham.
