It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Alfredo Aguilar on June 15th, 2023 at the age of 81. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Jose passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Nancy and family by his side. Jose was born on February 23, 1942 in La Lima, Honduras to Jose F. Aguilar and Lidia Aguilar. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy M. Aguilar, and 4 children and their spouses Lorena Landry (Richard), Ana Sawatzky (Hans), Adam Aguilar (Erica) and Steven Aguilar (Dilannia). He was predeceased by his only sibling, his sister Lily Badger. He was very proud of his 7 grandchildren Brittany Landry, Alex Sawatzky, Kristina Landry, Matthew Sawatzky, Michael Landry, Cameron Aguilar and Madison Aguilar.
When Jose was 12 his father died of kidney failure and the small family of three moved to Guatemala to be near Lidia’s family. His sister Lily went to work at an early age to support the family, allowing Jose to continue his education at private school. Jose was also able to pursue his love for baseball, soccer, golf and bike racing because of the support of his sister and his amazing coach and mentor Tito. Tito took Jose under his wing at a young age, even teaching him how to drive. We were able to meet Tito on our family trip to Guatemala and for that we will always be grateful.
In 1965, Jose immigrated to the US with the help of his sister who was already here. He was always a hard worker. After several years of working in the grocery business he started his own company, J&J Landscaping. He spent several years at the Brook House Condominiums as head groundskeeper. He loved being outdoors and playing in the dirt.
He enjoyed having people around especially his family, except during football season if they were talkative. Jose was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan no matter how bad they were. You could always count on Jose to be in his Dallas gear to show his unwavering support of his team.
Jose was a member of Celebration International Church in Wayland and was mentored in his faith by Pastor Joseph Sapienza who encouraged him in his walk with God. Pastor Joe made him feel welcomed and useful in his faith walk.
