Born in Framingham, MA on May 20, 1933 to Joseph Thomas Colgan and Leora Swift Colgan, she was a lifelong Framingham resident until she moved to New Jersey in 2015 to be close to her youngest daughter.
In addition to her time spent as a homemaker, Lona worked in a variety of jobs in the hospitality industry at Ten Acres Nightclub, Red Coach Grill Restaurant, and most recently at HMS Host on the Massachusetts Turnpike until she retired in 2002. She will be remembered for her cheerful, easy going nature and love of children.
Lona is survived by her five children: Wayne and Bruce Thomas of Framingham, MA. Diane (Lloyd) Marshman of Houston, TX, William (Kristene) Erwin of Pittsfield, MA, and Alixandra (Mark) Handy of Montclair, NJ. She is also survived by her 11 Grandchildren: Scott (Deborah) Thomas, Michael Thomas, Kimberly (Milton) Florian, Joseph Thomas, Timothy (Kate) Marshman, Leslie Marshman, Elizabeth and Robert Erwin, Nathaniel, Kaitlyn, Violet, Juliet, and Isabella Handy and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Robert Erwin, and sisters Pearl Guyotte, Myrtle Hogue, Dorothy Webb. She is survived by a sister and a brother, Shirley Mercer (Fairfield, NJ and Framingham, MA) and Sumner Colgan (Laconia, NH).
Due to the recent concerns of group gatherings, there will not be a funeral service but a celebration of life will take place at some point in the future.
