Born Mary Sue Wright to Charles Wright and Elizabeth Mason Wright on January 10, 1936 in Washington, D.C., Mary Sue grew up in a family of five children in Indian Head, Maryland. Two sisters, Anne Morooney, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and Jane Landrum, of Eugene, Oregon, survive her.
Sue attended Southern Seminary and Junior College for Women (now Southern Virginia University) in Buena Vista, Virginia. There, she met a young Keydet, Richard Clark Hyatt (d. May 2021), a student at nearby Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. Mary Sue and Richard were married in June 1956. Mary Sue and Richard would be married for 37 years and bring up three sons: Bradley F. Hyatt (Carla) of Beulaville, North Carolina; Todd S. Hyatt (Clara) of Sheridan, Wyoming; and Kent J. Hyatt (Tina) of Ashburn, Virginia.
As the wife of a Marine Corps officer for more than three decades, she spent those years traveling and living in many areas of the country and world, eventually settling in Grafton, Massachusetts at the end of their extensive travels.
Her professional life included stints as a teacher's aide, a saleswoman, a laboratory technician, an administrative assistant for two podiatric practices in the town of Grafton, and a loving babysitter to several families in the Grafton area. She was also active in church life, first at the North Grafton Methodist Church, then at Wellspring United Methodist Church in Shrewsbury.
Sue was the proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren (Michelle, Michael, Lucero, Marisol, Dylan, and Melissa) and 3 great-grandchildren (Lilia, Charlotte, and Ian). She was also beloved by all in her extended family of nieces, nephews, and countless family friends.
Sue Hyatt lives on in our deep memories and in the rich lives of her descendants and friends.
