William Christopher St. George, 64, resident of Groton, Massachusetts for over 35 years, passed away March 21, 2020 from liver cancer. Born May 14, 1955 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital (Boston) to Florence Adele Jenks St. George and Paul William St. George of Newton, MA, Bill grew up in Newton and Weston, graduated from Weston High School and attended 4 years at Bentley College. He studied lighting at Weston High School for student theater productions and was the lighting director for the Weston Drama Workshop and the Weston Friendly Society during the 1970s. A fledgling pilot, he flew his family to Martha’s Vineyard in his mid twenties. Early on in his business career, he worked in the corporate world for GTE Sylvania as well as Amkey and American Power Devices. Bill was Manager and Chairman of the Island Country Club Inn of Martha’s Vineyard in 1986-88 where he saved it from Bankruptcy, tripling revenue. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him to start several businesses: a plowing company in Weston, The Great Room Company of MetroWest Inc. and Infinity Towing of Groton. He loved sailing, skiing, cars, motorcycles, his cowboy hat and boots, the lake house in Belmont, NH, and getting together with family and friends.
As a true believer in giving back to his community, Bill was co-founder and a past president of the Groton Business Association, as well as invaluable in the setup and facilitation of many Grotonfest celebrations. He taught Sunday School at Sacred Heart Church of Groton for 5 years. He was a longtime member of and taught classes for NAMI (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill). He was raised Roman Catholic, became a born-again Christian January 1, 1997 and served his life with the words “The Secret of Living is Giving” in his heart. He is predeceased by his father, Paul William and sister, Michele Marie St. George-Taus. He is survived by his wife of 35 years Laura Elizabeth Lansdowne-St. George, mother Florence Adele, children Sean Patrick (wife Laura Tuz), Ryan Christopher, Erin Michele, Sara Elizabeth, five grandchildren and his brother Lawrence James St. George (and family) of Sudbury.
