

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Macedonia Baptist Church 145 Prevost Road Franklin (Ashton), Louisiana. Burial will follow in the St. John Baptist Church Cemetery Sterling Road Franklin, Louisiana.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized at a young age, and became a member of St. John Baptist Church.
Ruth attended public school in St. Mary Parish and graduated from Park Avenue High School in 1965. She later attended Southern University for a time.
Ruth would later marry Jerry Landry on September 18, 1974, and from that union were born two daughters, Vanessa Monique and Michelle Renee.
Ruth worked in the St. Mary Parish School District as a paraprofessional for 28½ years. She loved working with children, and they adored her; those relationships endured into their adulthood.
Ruth’s life revolved around her love for her siblings, daughters, and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her loving daughters, Michelle (David) West of Harker Heights, TX, and Vanessa (Brian) Burton of Killeen, TX; grandchildren Noah, Ava, and Jonah West of Harker Heights, TX; Quintin Burton of Nashville, TN; and Pfalin Burton of Kissimmee, FL; sisters Hattie Lee of Lafayette, LA; Doris (Mark) Phillips of Youngsville, LA; Carol Young of Las Vegas, NV; Bernadette (Michael Sr.) Lockett of Houston, TX; and Celitha Parker of Franklin, LA; brothers Louis (Amelia) Parker of Morgan City, LA, and Floyd (Brenda) Parker of Franklin, LA; sister-in-law Ora Boxie-Parker of Houston, TX; aunt Laura Bell Madison of Franklin, LA; her goddaughter Windy Boseman; godson James Bowers III; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, dearest friends, and her beloved grand dog Domino.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Elnora and Rufus Parker, Sr.; her brothers, Timothy Parker Sr., Claude Parker, Lloyd Smith Sr., Earl Smith Jr., and Rev. Rufus Parker Jr.; her sister, Elnora Matthews; her maternal grandparents, Arthur Madison Sr. and Elizabeth Robinson Madison; her paternal grandparents, Tom Parker Sr. and Hattie Parker; her sister-in-law/sister, Patricia Parker; a host of uncles and aunts; one infant child; and three grandchildren lost before birth, Jordin Burton and two babies from the West family.
