Willie Mae Lewis

Willie Mae Lewis transitioned peacefully on September 15, 2026, at the age of 86, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, surrounded by her loved ones. Willie Mae was a resident of Franklin, Louisiana.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 9:00 AM until Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM at Jones Funeral Home at 1101 Main Street Franklin, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Nazarene Baptist Church Cemetery, 7416 Hwy. 182 in Verdunville, Louisiana.

Willie Mae Lewis was born on July 25,1940, to the late Agnes and Solomon Baker, Sr. Willie Mae was baptized at an early age at the First Union Baptist Church in Garden City, Louisiana and later became a member of New Providence Baptist Church in Centerville, Louisiana.

Willie Mae married Dallas Lewis in 1962, and five children were born to this union: Darren (Carol Ann) Lewis of Franklin, Louisiana, Karen Lewis of Franklin, Louisiana, Sharon (Lionel) Delasbour of Verdunville, Louisiana, Allen (Kristie) Lewis of Lafayette, Louisiana, Amanda (Edward) Simon, Sr. of Jeanerette, Louisiana and a grandson, Nokem Lewis, who she raised from birth.

Willie Mae leaves to mourn her memories, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Monica Lewis of Houston, Texas; two loving caregivers, Carol Ann Lewis and Tiffany Guilbeau; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends, Almena Kirt, Dot Jenkins, Beulah Warner, and Lillie Mae Washington.

Willie Mae loved caring for her home, her family, other relatives and friends. She enjoyed going to bingo with friends. All who knew her appreciated her quiet, no-nonsense demeanor, her infectious laughter, and warm smile. Willie Mae was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her legacy of love and dedication to family will live in the memory of her children and grandchildren.

Willie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Lewis; her parents, Solomon and Agnes Hill Baker, Sr.; three brothers, Solomon Baker, Jr., Floyd Charles Baker, and Woodrow Baker, Sr., a granddaughter, Tasha Lewis.
