Arthur was born in Boston, Mass., on Feb. 15, 1933, the only child of Harry and Marjorie Short Bean.
He was a National Guardsman and then an MP in Panama during the Korean War. Later, he joined his father in Bean Bros., a bowling pin manufacturing business in Walton, N.Y. Arthur raced power boats in the early 1960s, and in 1971 opened Art’s Marine Sales in Oneonta, N.Y. He sold boats and snowmobiles until he retired in 1999.
His family remembers him as a strong yet gentle man who was confident in business, respected in the community and willing to become an instant father to the four children of the woman he loved. He was steadfast, reliable and generous in even the stormiest of times, and willing to grow along with us.
Arthur is survived by Carol, his wife of almost 40 years, and children Diana Bean (Stephen Spero), Sandra Scaccia (Dale), Janet Roseboom, Julie Paschell (Tim) and Brian Bean. He leaves six grandchildren: Alisha, Casey, Samuel, Allegra, Tara and David, and four great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on June 18, 2014 at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.
Donations in his memory can be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
