George A. Harper Jr.

George was born on September 12, 1930 in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania the son of the late George A. and Mabel (Champion) Harper, Sr.. He married Mary Brown on July 11, 1970 and was previously married to Dolores Burkhardt, who predeceased George.

George worked as an Analyst for the US Department of Defense at Fort Meade, Maryland, retiring after 30 years. He was a member of the Aldrich Baptist Church in North Franklin.

George drove a school bus for the Franklin Central School for 14 years, and he also volunteered in Mrs. Sue Patrick’s class for several years. He enjoyed daily walks with his dogs, bird watching, golf and watching CNN.

George is survived by his brother, Ron Harper of Tarzana, California; his sister, Marion Nist of Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania; his wife, Mary B. Harper of Franklin; his children, Cheryl and Scott Murray of Newcastle, Washington, Valerie and Tom Shea of Crofton, Maryland, Carole Harper of Annapolis, Maryland and Justin and Corrine Harper of Franklin.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer, Julie, Thomas, Patrick, Caitlyn, Zachary and Jarrett and a grandfriend, Olivia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2013 in the Aldrich Baptist Church, North Franklin with Dale Gordon, officiating. Interment will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main Street, Franklin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad or the Aldrich Baptist Church.
