John R. Law, often called Jack, died peacefully on 10/10/25 at Albany Medical Center. He had excellent care and was a model patient throughout his time in the hospital. He greeted everyone with a smile, kind word or joke even when he was not feeling well, as he did throughout his life.
Jack was born in Mineola, NY to parents Clarence (Duke) Law and Muriel O’Neil on March 9, 1935. He lived with his father in Great Neck NY and with his extended family in Franklin NY. While a child living in Franklin, Jack nearly died after his appendix burst. He had not complained much, also a common theme throughout his life, but when he arrived at Sidney hospital his prognosis was poor. His Aunt Charlotte nursed him back to health in a hall in the Sidney hospital because they did not have a room. He attended both Franklin Central School and Great Neck High School and graduated from Great Neck High School in 1953.
He enlisted in the US Army and after completing basic training was sent to England. Upon discharge in 1955, Jack moved back to Franklin where he could hunt and fish to his heart’s content. He was employed as a machinist at Bendix in Sidney NY for 13 years.
He meant the love of his life in Franklin and married his wife of 66 years Ann Patrick on July 25, 1959 at Saint Mary’s Church in Oneonta NY. Together they raised a wonderful family, John Patrick Law, James Robert Law and Colleen Ann Law. Jack and Ann were a wonderful team that went through life with love, support, friendship and above all humor. The entire family has wonderful memories of camping, trips to Florida and Maine and family vacations to celebrate both John and Ann turning 80 years old. He was an excellent father to not only his children but to his extended family and others in his community. He loved to help others, especially to learn how to fish or hunt and took great pride in their success.
In 1969 he became a Prudential Insurance Agent, taking over the agency from his Uncle Donald Law for 25 years to serve his community. He qualified for 25 Regional Business Conferences, 11 International Conferences and qualified for the Academy of Honor Award for Outstanding sales and service for 25 years. As always, his wife Ann worked with him throughout his time with Prudential to help him serve his clients. He was dedicated to serve his clients and often spoke at conferences on the importance of the service after the sale of a policy.
Jack was a member of the Franklin Rotary Club since 1970. He was the president for one year but for most of those years, he was the treasurer. He was the Exchange Student chairman for 25 years and gave many students the opportunity to see different parts of the world to learn and build connections. He also received the Paul Harris Award which honors service above self. He was also a member of the Franklin Fire Department, American Legion in Franklin, Elks Club in Sidney, The Ouleout Game and Fishing Club in Franklin and the St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta. He was an active member in the Franklin community and spent much of his time with community projects and helping others.
Jack’s family and extended family and friends meant everything to him. He was a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach when his children were young and made great effort to schedule appointments with clients around his children’s games, concerts and other important events. He always put his family first and they always knew they were his priority. He was very proud of his family and loved to spend time with them on vacation or just spending time at home. He was an excellent communicator and made numerous visits and calls each week to check on family and friends to make sure they knew he was thinking of them and to catch up on recent events.
Jack is predeceased by his father C. Duke Law, step mother Sally Law, Step Brother Michael Law.
