

He was born May 14, 1938 to Maurice and Edith (Osterhout) Judd in North Franklin.
As a graduate of Franklin Central School, He was active in the FFA, Junior and Senior plays, football and baseball. He also graduated from Albany business college and the State University of New York at Delhi.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 when he was honorably discharged.
Maurice was a respected figure in the Town of Franklin, where he served as the Republican chairman. His career included significant roles such as working as a dispatcher for the D&H railroad, a position that allowed him to indulge in his lifelong passion for trains. He also served as the Deputy County Treasurer of Delaware County for 20 years, contributing greatly to the community. Maurice also dedicated his life to working on the family farm, where he found joy in the companionship of his beloved grand-dogs and cat—Sandy, Virginia, Ruger, and Ace—who could often be seen following him around the farm.
An avid antique car enthusiast, Maurice was a member of the Rolling Antiquers for over 50 years, where he was an officer and held numerous roles and participated actively in events. He took great pleasure in showcasing the family’s Cadillac at car shows, driving it around on sunny days, participating in parades, particularly the Franklin Memorial Day parade, and the Franklin Railroad Museum's special events. His love for cars was further demonstrated by his involvement in the Cadillac club, Massey Harris club, and the Antique Automobile Association of America.
Sharing his father and sister’s love of travel, adventure and the appreciation of this beautiful county, Maurice was known for taking the “scenic route” when traveling.
Maurice was an avid baseball fan, particularly of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the NY Mets. He was a history buff. He enjoyed bluegrass music and cherished spending time with his beloved wife, Patricia, and his family
Maurice was a life-long member of the Aldrich Baptist Church, where he held numerous positions including Deacon and Trustee, and was instrumental in spearheading various improvements to the church.
Maurice was exceptionally incredible in the ways he interacted with his community and family. He will be remembered as a great man, generous helpful supportive and who was very proud of his family and his North Franklin community.
Maurice was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Edith (Osterhout) Judd, his sister Cecilia Judd Russel.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Herron) Judd of 57 years; his children, Elizabeth Judd Howland and husband Michael of North Franklin and Edward Judd and significant other Lisa. His precious grandchildren, Tracer Howland and Kailee Young, Cael Howland, Matthew Judd and Amber Oberry and his family by heart, Heather Sahrbeck, Rachel Sahrbeck, Anthony Monaceo and his wife Yiji; his nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Aldrich Baptist Church, State Highway 28, North Franklin with the Rev. Laura Palada officiating.
