It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nancy Bedford, who went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 73. Nancy passed away on February 28, 2025, after a brief and sudden illness, surrounded by her children during her final moments.
Born November 6, 1951, in Buffalo NY, Nancy was the daughter of Donald W. Bedford Sr. and Grace Gardner Bedford. She was predeceased by her parents, her younger brother, Donald Bedford Jr., an infant brother, Johnny, and her niece, Bonnie Ruth Bedford.
Three and a half years ago, Nancy moved from Franklin, New York, to Harwinton, Connecticut, to be with her partner and sweetheart, David Knight. During their time together, Nancy and David enjoyed traveling to places like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee, staying in campgrounds and state parks, and savoring music concerts in the park.
Nancy was a loving mother to her two children: George Jones and his partner, Amelia Fisk Foote, of Downsville, NY, and Deborah Jones and her partner, Shawn LeFever, of Unadilla, NY. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren: George’s children, Sierra Jones and Josh Jones of Franklin, NY; and Deborah’s children, April McNeilly (Joshua Baker) of Conway, SC, and Dustin McNeilly (Kailee Pantele) of Franklin, NY. Additionally, she cherished her special grandchildren, Kacey Theobald (Brad) of Mt Upton, Connor Goedel of Willis, Texas, and Dylan Fisk Foote and Stephanie Foote of Downsville, NY. Nancy was also a proud great-grandmother to Emery, daughter of Sierra, and adored her great-grandchildren, Raegan and Logan Theobald.
In addition, Nancy is survived by her siblings, Harold Bedford and his wife, Karen, of Westminster, Maryland, Jeff Bedford and his wife, Cathy, of Cherry Log, Georgia, and, along with numerous cherished nieces and nephews, and the added family of David—son Scott (Vanessa) Knight of Tennessee.
Affectionately known as "Ma" or "Nan," Nancy had a passion for remembering everyone’s birthdays and sending heartfelt cards to all her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She loved sharing photos and stories, proudly celebrating her family. Baking brought her immense joy, and cooking was her love language.
She was a member of the River Street Baptist Church in Oneonta where she served as treasurer for a few years prior to moving. Nancy was a caregiver at heart, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer support to those around her, embodying the spirit of compassion and kindness in everything she did.
In her last few weeks, Nancy faced a rapidly changing health crisis that ultimately took her from us too soon. We find comfort in knowing she was surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held in late spring, with details to be shared with family and friends closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local hospice or humane society.
As we remember Nancy, we are grateful for the love and joy she brought into our lives. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home of Franklin, NY.
