He was born on September 28, 1939 in Oneonta, the son of Paul and Jean (Bell) Miner.
A graduate of AL Kellogg Central School class of 1958, Roy went on to serve his country in the Air Force. In 1980 he retired from the military as a Master Sergeant after a 22 year career of dedication and service. In 2004 he retired for a second time from Custom Electronics in Oneonta.
Fondly remembered by his family as a “neighbor everyone would love to have,” Roy lived his life dedicated to helping others selflessly and would think nothing of lending a hand to someone in need. He was a member of the American Legion Post 259, Oneonta, the Treadwell Volunteer Fire Department, and the Croton Union Cemetery Association, Treadwell.
In is free time, Roy enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking/carpentry. He took great pride in his lawn and garden.
His greatest joy was spending time with his Boy (grandson) and the Little Guy (great grandson), teaching them the joys of woodworking and model trains.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary “Gert” Gertrude Miner, of Treadwell; his daughter, Wanda (Randy) Newman of Thonotosassa, FL; grandson, Anthony Hebbard of Franklin; great grandson Colter James Hebbard of Franklin; a sister, Carol Waite of Concord, NH; brothers, Tom (Gail) Miner of Grand Gorge, NY, and Walter (Roswitha) Miner of Clyde, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Donald Miner of Treadwell, NY; and a brother in law, John “Jack” Waite of Concord, NY.
Roy will be laid to rest in Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell. A graveside service with military honors will take place in the summer of 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Croton Union Cemetery, PO Box 94, Hamden, NY 13782 in memory of Robert Roy Miner.
