Barbara Norton

Barbara Jane Norton, age 92, a long-time resident of Middletown, peacefully left her earthly body Friday, the 23rd of September at the Atrium Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Norton. Born in 1919 in Galesburg, Illinois, Barbara was an intelligent woman who amazed her family with her memory and quick wit. She was an avid puzzle and crossword worker. She earned degrees in Chemistry and Education from Western Illinois State University. She started her working career as a chemist, and later was a substitute teacher for the Middletown School District. For many years, she was involved with The Doty House and her special "kids". However, most of her life she was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered by her children Martha Chapman Frank, Nancy Norton, Barbara Boo Schmiedt, and Peter Norton; her brother Harold Burkhalter; five grandchildren Kimberly David Baker, Melissa Chris DeHart, Edward Norton, Osee Koger and Andrew Norton; five great grandchildren Nick Costello, Ben Costello, Laurie Costelo, Erikka DeHart and Abi DeHart; and one great-great grandchild Giovanni Costello.
