

Betty N. York, age 86, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2011 at Hill Spring Nursing Home in Springboro, Ohio. She was born December 2, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Nicholas and Rose Russin. Following her graduation from Butler High School, Betty went to work for Armco Steel Works. She married the love of her life, Al York in 1942 prior to him leaving for World War II. In 1955, Betty moved with her family to Middletown, Ohio, where she went to work for the Middletown Board of Education in 1956. She retired in 1981 as Treasurer for the Board of Education. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Carol Ann York of Dallas, Texas and Allene and her husband, Richard North of Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Jessica North of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Peter and wife, Lindsey of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Caleb, Cody, and Cara Rose North of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Ardyn North of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Rose Russin, her loving husband of sixty-three years, S. Alfred York, her brother, Dr. Nicholas C. Russin of Kingsport, Tennessee and his wife, Marie Russin. Betty was raised with music, playing the piano, organ, bells, drums, and xylophone, as well as directing a church choir. Her other key interests included her family gatherings and traditions, cooking, crafts, appreciation of nature, domestic and international traveling with her husband, and social business networking. Betty's diligence and integrity, perfection, optimism, and perseverance drew people to her. She believed in mankind. Her legacy centered upon her passion for life and sharing it with others through her notes, calls, visits and laughter. The core of her life was her family and friends. All who knew her were encouraged by Betty. Betty's volunteer work involved being a Sunday school teacher and assisting with Girl Scouts and Rainbow Girls. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Middletown, Ohio, for fifty-six years. Her professional memberships included Prosser Chapter, No. 367 Order of the Eastern Star, Soroptimist International President, Co-founder of Soroptimist International Alumni Group, Ohio Association of School Business Officials, and Butler County Association of School Business Officials. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tim Doty and Chaplain Lois Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5:00 PM Thursday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home in Middletown. Visitation in Butler, Pennsylvania will be from 1-4:00 PM Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, with funeral services at 4:00 PM.
