Carrie Bricker of Carlisle, OH passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at the age of 87 years, after losing her battle with cancer. She was born in Beattyville, KY; she met the love of her life, Gordon, while visiting her sister in Ohio, when he was also visiting his sister, the neighbor. They hit it off and spent 60 wonderful years together, building a home in Carlisle, raising their daughter, Pam, seeing her married, and helping to raise their beloved granddaughter, Nora. They also spent years helping take care of their best almost-daughter, Jackie, who lived across the street.
Carrie was mostly a homemaker, enjoying gardening, plants and fresh flowers. She stepped out for a few years, working at Hills Department Store, but quickly returned to home life.
After those 60 years, Carrie lost Gordon and continued to show us her strength by staying alone in her home, with occasional visits to Virginia to spend time with her family. During those visits, she became even more loved by many. As Nora grew up and got engaged, her new, almost-in-laws also fell in love with Carrie and she instantly became everyone’s Mamaw. She was loved by all the DeGroat’s, Forrest, Ana, Warren, Pierce, and Hien. She even became involved in celebrating the Vietnamese New Year and loved the experience.
Carrie loved bluegrass music, Real Roots Radio and Joe Mullins for his bluegrass shows. She was a front row staple at every show for nearly 20 years. She also took up several new hobbies in her twilight years. She spent a summer riding motorcycles, not worrying about her hairdo! She visited a casino for the first time and won a little cash on the slots. She learned about ice hockey and went to her first live game. She reconnected with a high school friend, Bill, who became a close companion, working jigsaw puzzles with her, taking her out to eat and visiting cemeteries for their respective spouses. He kept her company until the end. Carrie also became really close to a new friend, Sue, who stepped up to help care for her, alongside Jackie, as her strength was leaving her. For these special friends, the family is so thankful for them and all they did to make sure Carrie was always comfortable. You are our angels and we love you.
Carrie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by daughter, Pam Forknall (George), granddaughter Nora Forknall (Forrest DeGroat), and best almost-daughter Jackie McKinnson (Angie).
She will be entombed at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville on Monday September 8, 2025 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, she and her family would appreciate a memorial donation in her name be made to Ohio’s Hospice at https://www.ohioshospice.org/franklin/.
