Denise Anne Wallace-Hamby, passed suddenly at home, October 7th, 2015 in Springboro, Ohio. Known to her siblings, nieces and nephews as “Niecie” she was born prematurely on April 28, 1957, in Scioto County, Ohio, Denise was a long time resident of Springboro having moved to the area at the age of six. She attended Springboro High School and was Salutatorian of the class of 1975. Denise lent her beautiful alto singing voice to the specialty choral groups while in high school. She also had the distinction of being Captain of the very first Flag Corp (color guard) at SHS. Denise went on to earn a BA in History with a Minor in Anthropology doing her studies at both Miami University and Miami University, Oxford. Denise was employed at KinderCare Learning Center for 30 years as a child care provider which speaks of her loyalty, dedication and her love of children. The eldest of five girls, all of her sisters feel blessed to have been mothered, nurtured, and guided by her wit and wisdom. Denise married her best friend, Steven (Steve) Hamby on February 14, 1986 and together they lived in Miamisburg, Ohio and later moved to Springboro after the birth of their first child, Steven Nicholas (Nick). Nick was followed by daughters Kirah Brianne and Kayla Marie. Her family would like her wonderful uniqueness to be remembered. An avid reader her entire life, Denise was also patient, kind, soft-spoken but could be as stubborn as the day was long! Quick, smart and logical, she also had a quiet, dry wit that you had to be listening for or it might go right over your head. Ever unassuming, but never weak…her loss has left an unfillable void in her family’s lives. Preceded in death by her beloved fraternal Grandmother Hazel Wallace and Grandfather Marion “Jack” Wallace (she was their “favorite”), her maternal grandparents Estella and Nicholas Kallas, and father-in-law, Jack Hamby. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Steven Hamby, her son Nick and her daughters Kirah and Kayla, her parents Louella (Kallas) and Walter Wallace, her sisters Linda Wallace-Wiley, Kathleen Wallace, Cynthia Wallace and long term partner Stuart Wilson, Teresa Wallace-Gunning and husband Thomas, mother-in-law, Lois Hambyand numerous nieces and nephews. “Pity the living, and above all those who live without love.” Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E.
