Donald Edward Ross, 82, of Carlisle, Ohio, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on October 30, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on January 12, 1943, in Pomeroyton, Kentucky to Osa Stanley Ross and Bertha Mae Ross (Sargent), Don lived a life rooted in love, service, and devotion to the people he cared for most.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Duwayne Ross; his sister, Hazel Ware; and his brother, Isom Ross. He leaves behind his loving wife, Brenda Ross (Scenters), who was not only his partner but his best friend. Don is also survived by his daughters, Darla Melton, Donita Ross, and Madison Blake; his sons, Darren Ross and Jayden Blake; stepdaughter, Penny Mosley; and stepsons, Thomas “Eugene” (Faye) Still and Brian “Keith” Still. He will be deeply missed by very dear friends, Steve and Mable Hall, and Pearl Goins, as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and steady presence.
Family was the center of Don’s world. He believed that love was shown through action, and he spent his life taking care of those around him — always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply listen. Whether in times of celebration or difficulty, Don could be counted on, and his quiet strength and dedication created a foundation for his family that will be felt for generations.
A gifted mechanic with a true passion for engines and craftsmanship, Don poured his heart into restoring his beloved 1950s International Truck and his 1973 Black Road Runner, both built from the ground up. His Road Runner, admired by many, earned trophies and magazine features — but for Don, it was always more about the joy of the work than the recognition. He loved traveling on his motorcycle and exploring the open road, a reflection of his adventurous spirit and appreciation for God’s creation.
Don served honorably in the United States Army and later retired from General Motors. He was an avid hunter, a skilled archer, and a man who found peace in the outdoors. Above all, Don was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Dixie Highway Christian Center. His faith guided him, grounded him, and shaped the way he loved others — humbly, generously, and with sincerity.
Those who knew Don will remember his gentle humor, his generous heart, his hardworking hands, and the way his presence brought comfort and warmth. His legacy is one of love, loyalty, faith, and perseverance. Though he has gone on ahead, his impact remains, and his family and friends take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones, and resting in the fullness of God’s glory.
Ride peacefully, Don. Your journey here may be complete, but your love goes on in every life you touched.
A visitation for Donald will be held Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dixie Highway Christian Center, 5287 S Dixie Hwy, Franklin, OH 45005, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM.
