

Eleanor A. Szabo, age 93, of Middletown, died Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. She was born April 14, 1918 in Middletown, the daughter of Harold Apple and Lillian Schroeder Apple. Eleanor began teaching as an apprentice under the supervision of Winifred Thompson, long time, respected piano teacher in Middletown who was the local affiliate of Sherwood Music School of Chicago. While serving as an apprentice, she continued her study with Mrs. Thompson and spent one summer session with Robert Goldsmond at Miami University. She became a certified member of the Ohio Music Teachers Association in 1959 and served 10 years as secretary/treasurer of Southwest District of OMTA. Over the years, she taught hundreds of piano students in Southwest Ohio. She also was a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She taught Sunday school at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for ten years. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Szabo in 1981. Andrew and Eleanor were married July 8, 1939 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Dayton, Ohio. She is survived by one son, David wife, Alida Szabo of Chicago, Illinois and one sister, Martha Schmidt of Monroe, Ohio. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 212 S.
