

Gladys McPeek Crawford (Lewellyn-Wolfe) of Monroe, Ohio, age 87, passed on to her joy filled heavenly home on January 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family and care givers at her home in the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village - Monroe, Ohio.
Gladys was born in Delaware, Ohio to the late Leonard Isaac Mc Peek and Goldie Oretha (Brice) Mc Peek. She was called to the nursing profession at a young age and she attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and was an Honors Graduate of the Middletown Hospital School of Nursing (Class of 1950). As a Registered Nurse at Middletown Regional Hospital, Gladys faithfully and compassionately helped serve the needs of the people in the Middletown area for 38 years. Gladys worked in all of the departments over the years. She especially enjoyed her time helping mothers bring new life into the world in the Obstetrics ward. She also served in the position of Administrative Assistant at Middletown Hospital and was active in the Middletown Civic Association.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband and father of her two sons, Donald E. Lewellyn in 1976, her second husband Dennis E. Wolfe in 1984, and third husband Dr. William J. Crawford in 2016.
Gladys is survived by two sons, D. Scott (Shaun) Lewellyn of Iron Mountain, MI and David E. Lewellyn of Trenton, OH; granddaughters, Maridith Sloane Lewellyn of Minneapolis, MN, Elizabeth Grace Lewellyn (Fiancée Dustin Ramlow) of Holland, MI; her sister, Evelyn M. Gorman of Cincinnati, OH, and special nieces, Kelli Gorman Donaldson and Kathy Gorman Alban.
Gladys cared deeply for her step-children and their families and is survived by Laurie C. (Al) Stitz of West Chester, OH, John (Wendy) Crawford of Westerville, OH, William (Lori) Crawford of Springboro, OH, James Wolfe of Middletown, OH and Robert Wolfe of Beavercreek, OH. Step-grandchildren, Dean (Aimee) Stitz, Todd Stitz, John, Kyle and Cody Crawford, Nina and Luuk Crawford.
Gladys is also survived by her very special care-giver, Diane Smallwood.
The well being of her family and friends was Gladys' priority. Gladys was always involved with her son’s activities at school and The First Christian Church. She especially enjoyed family vacations to Florida, boating on Lake Erie and her numerous adventures in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan over the years. Gladys was a dedicated Ohio State Mom who loved attending football games in the fall to cheer for the Buckeyes and The Ohio State University Marching Band. Gladys enjoyed playing bridge with special friends and was an avid and competitive golfer. She participated in several golf leagues in Ohio and Florida until the age of 85.
Gladys remained passionate in her desire to help others in need as she gave her time and talents as a volunteer at the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village and as a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the Mary H. Kittredge Chapel on the campus of the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, Ohio, 45050. Memorial Services will follow at 12:00pm.
The family has entrusted the Breitenbach-Anderson Funeral Home with arrangements. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery, Middletown, OH.
The family would like to recognize and thank Dr. N. Okoye and her staff. The family would also like to give thanks to nurses Kirsten, Patricia, Janet, Heather and Bobbi of Middletown Hospice and the many Visiting Angels for their very special care.
