July 21, 1945 - June 14, 2026
Jacqueline (Jackie) LaFountain, 80, died peacefully at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center on June 14, 2026, with her family at her side. Born in Yonkers, NY, Jackie was raised by her grandparents, Frank and Clarice (Weller) Fenton, in Wells, VT. She graduated from Granville High School in the Class of 1963. She attended St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY, to earn her RN license. Jackie dedicated more than 40 years of her life caring for others in hospitals, nursing homes, and the New York State Department of Corrections until her retirement in 2009. After living in Vermont for nearly 25 years, Jackie retired to Florida with her husband, George LaFountain. She continued to work for others, including organizing weekly food donations for the Dunedin Cares Community Food Pantry.
Her generosity, loving heart, devotion to family, stubbornness, and ability to somehow get the last word in any conversation will ripple through the lives of those still here who miss her.
Jackie was predeceased by her grandparents, her parents, John and Dorothy Helck, her first husband, Peter Skerritt (1994), her second husband, George LaFountain (2022), and many other beloved family members.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Jon Rossiter, her cherished granddaughters, Cailyn and Erin, and numerous cousins and extended family members. In keeping with her wishes, her cremains will be returned to Vermont, along with those of her beloved husband George, where they will be laid to rest together in a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jackie’s memory can be made to the Dunedin Cares Community Food Pantry by visiting https://dunedincares.org/donate/
