James Russell Greene Jr.

James Russell Greene Jr, age 88 of Dayton, Ohio went to be with Jesus April 2, 2024. He was born June 23,1935 in Burlington, New Jersey to the late Rev. James R. Greene Sr. and Anna Mae (Turner) Greene. He was raised in Burlington and was the eldest of 17 children. James served in the U.S. Air Force, active and civil for 41 years traveling to many countries during and after his retirement. He received many awards and accommodations during his service. James attended Miamisburg Assembly of God, Miamisburg, OH and was active in a Wright Patterson AFB bowling league. As all will attest, he never met a stranger and had an encouraging word for each one. He spent many years coaching track and field including his son Joe Greene who bronze medaled in the Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Olympics.

Preceded in death by his wife, Laura M. (Calhoun) Greene, two sons: James R. Greene III, Esq. (Jackie) and Daniel B. Greene and grandson, Aaron M. Cox. He leaves to celebrate his life, six children: Z. Denise Greene, Laura M. Cox (Brent), Arlene B. Ruffin (Don), Joseph T. Greene (Andrea), Andrew D. Greene (Stephanie), Philip S.Greene (Jennifer Towns). Granddaughters: Shawna Lawson, Imani N. Perkins (Tim), Rachel D. Greene, Jasmine V. Solis (Mario), Tarah Curp, Aryonna M. Greene, and grandsons: Jesse A. Cox (Maggie), David N. Cox, Julian C. Ruffin, Andrew D. Greene Jr., Jared J. Ruffin, Jordan L. Greene, Joshua N. Greene, Isaiah J. Greene, Nathan A. Greene, Elijah J. Greene and Hayden R. Greene and great grandchildren: Camden Cox, Aria Cox, Miles Cox, James Perkins, Luka Greene and Amelia Solis. Remaining 5 brothers: Pastor Melvin L. Greene (Elma), Francis Rayford Greene, Frederick Greene, Ricky R. Greene, Robert W. Greene. Four sisters: Mary Bernice Williamson, Rita A. McMillon (John), Geraldine Greene Kennedy (Bernice) and Vivian Greene, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation for James will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miamisburg Assembly of God Church, 501 N. Ninth Street, Miamisburg, Ohio 45342. Additional visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by funeral services 2024 at 12:00 PM at the church. An interment with military honors will follow Friday, April 12, 2024 at Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery, Corner of Fairfield and Indian Ripple Roads, Beavercreek, Ohio 45440.
