

James B. Oldfield, 73, of Franklin, passed away at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, following a recent injury from a fall. Mr. Oldfield was born on Dec. 2, 1951, in Middletown, to James A. and Eunice (Trimble) Oldfield, who preceded him in death.
He was the former superintendent of Carlisle Local Schools. Over the course of his career with the school district, he served in various roles, including science teacher, assistant principal, principal, curriculum director, and assistant superintendent.
He was beloved by many professional colleagues, former students, and their families.
Mr. Oldfield earned his undergraduate degree from Miami University and a master’s degree from Xavier University. He was a proud 1970 graduate of Carlisle High School.
Beyond his professional life, he enjoyed antiquing, spending time with family and friends, and nurturing his passion for science and history, particularly his admiration for Abraham Lincoln.
He cherished vacationing in Rocky Mountain National Park, where he delighted in its natural beauty. He enjoyed taking short walks along the park’s scenic trails, picnicking, driving Trail Ridge Road, shopping in Estes Park, and visiting the historic Stanley Hotel.
He is survived by his son, Nicholas (Sara) Oldfield of Lebanon; his daughter, Heidi Oldfield, and son-in-law, Brad Rhodes, of Oakwood; his sisters, Cathy Baker of Franklin and Connie (Michael) Williams of Trenton; grandchildren Milo and Charlie Oldfield, and twins Sebastian and Wilde Rhodes; nieces Emma Baker and Sarah Phillips; nephew Dr. Austin Williams; great-niece Daisy Phelps; Maya Williams, Norah Phillips and great-nephew Creed Gray.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m at Anderson Funeral Home 1357 E. Second Street Franklin, OH 45005. Private graveside services will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio, officiated by Mark Combs. Music will be provided by Larry Collins and Adam McIntosh.
