This world became a little brighter on October 19, 1965 when Joey Lee Collins was born. Everyone inside the delivery room of Middletown Regional Hospital in Middletown, OH was witness to a miracle. The doctors did not believe there would be any quality of life for the baby boy born that day to Rev Billy D. Collins Sr. and Loretta, but that couldn't have been any further from the truth. Joey leaves behind two brothers, Billy D. Collins Jr. (Elissa) and Jeffery L. Collins (Beverly) whom he loved and admired dearly. Just like any little brother, Joey could often be found imitating them. Pretending to be a preacher like his bub Billy and a choir director like his bub Jeff. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews whose childhood was brightened because of him and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends as well.
Joey often spoke about going to heaven to be with his mommy and daddy who had gone before him. That glorious reunion took place on June 4, 2021. He left the home of his dear friends Tim and Odell Howell to be ushered into his eternal home by his parents and grandparents. Alongside of them were several aunts, uncles, and family members that Friday morning.
Joey attended East Dayton Christian Academy and later earned his diploma which he was very proud of. He participated in the Special Olympics leading in the broad jump event. He was also the leader in one of the short distance races, but would stop and wait for the other contestants
Joey worked as a host at Frisch's Restaurant in Franklin, OH for a couple of years. He was so excited for that position and practiced showing people to their seat several times leading up to his first day. He was also thrilled with the opportunity to serve the people at Zink’s Meat Market in Franklin as well. Joey loved that he was able to work beside his longtime friend Betty Carpenter and the warm welcome he received by the wonderful staff there.
Joey will be greatly missed by his long-time girlfriend/fiancé, Anita Osborne. Joey dreamed of the day he could make his "woman" his bride. He was very dedicated to her and made sure other women knew he was taken. He could often be found on the phone with Anita planning every detail to the big day. He had dresses picked out, songs chosen, and hair styles he preferred clipped out of magazines. She loved Joey and would often just agree to his vision saying "okay Joey".
Joey had a heart to serve the lord and loved being involved with the choir. He loved to sing and at one time was invited to do so at the Ohio Church of God Campmeeting. He made several guest appearances but served as a dedicated member at Crossroads Church of God, Miamisburg Church of God (Rejoicing Life Church) and Dixie Highway Christian Center. Most of us will never be able to hear the jingle of a tambourine without thinking of our sweet Joey.
Joe had many wonderful qualities but was best known for his love for his family, his love for Jesus, and his love for good food. His ideal day would have been best described as Church with all of his family followed by going to a restaurant. Some of his favorite meals came from places like: Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse, El Rancho Grande, and Cracker Barrel but nothing compared to "what my mommy used to make" according to Joey. Anything she made was always his favorite.
