John Eblin Jr., age 91, of Carlisle, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Hospice of Butler Warren Counties. He was born on August 15, 1934, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late John and Eva Eblin (Kuhn).
John was a proud graduate of Chillicothe High School—an achievement that meant even more because he was the first person in his family to earn a high school diploma. Not one to do things halfway, he also served as captain of the baseball team and was known as a formidable pitcher, a skill he proudly carried into adulthood, including pitching a no-hitter on his fast-pitch softball team.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, John faithfully cheered on the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, enjoyed bowling and golfing, and never passed up the chance to watch horse racing. He worked as a paper mill manager for Diamond International and Smurfit-Stone, but if you asked John, his most important title was family man.
John was an excellent husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and his family was always his greatest joy. He was known for his sharp wit and legendary storytelling skills—stories that were always entertaining, and some of which may have even been true. His sense of humor was memorable and he could have a room laughing without even trying.
John loved cigars, card games (Gin, Spades, and Poker), and was especially skilled at chess. He was also an outstanding cook who could make just about anything taste amazing. At weddings, John had a tradition of welcoming new family members with a $100 bill, accompanied by the unforgettable disclaimer: “No returns or refunds.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of many years, Williadine “Willie” Eblin, in 2022; his son, John Eblin III; and his grandson, Matthew.
John is survived by his daughters, Laura (Rand) Adams and Bonnie (Ronnie) Byrd; his sons, Cary (Kathy) Eblin and Ken Eblin; grandchildren, C.J., April, Jessica, Katie, and Jonathon; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Alyssa, Mylee, Kaylee, Olivia, Liam, and Noah; his sister, Sandra Eblin; his brother, Keith Eblin; and many extended family members and friends who will continue telling his stories—just as he would have wanted.
A funeral service for John will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second Street, Franklin, Ohio with Pastor Gary Morgan officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date.
John lived a long, full life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable moments. His humor, generosity, and stories will be missed—but never forgotten.
