February 4, 1932 – July 30, 2025
John Egleston, age 93, of Springboro, OH, passed away on July 30, 2025. Born in 1932 in Frenchburg, Kentucky, to the late Sidney Grant and Sarah Belle (Steele) Egleston, he was one of nine children. Growing up during the Great Depression, John developed practical, common-sense skills that would guide him often throughout his life.
After graduating high school, John served in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he settled in Dayton, Ohio, where he spent many years working in the commercial printing industry. In 1968, the family moved to the peaceful countryside of Springboro, Ohio, where he delighted in tending a large garden and caring for a thriving apple orchard.
In 1971, he became a beekeeper in the Springboro area. He could often be seen at his roadside stand and at local farm markets with his honey. He was affectionately called the “Honey Man.” Being an avid gardener, he would often sell his produce right alongside his honey. In the late 1970’s, after obtaining his auctioneer’s license, he offered his skills at a local auction barn and conducted many estate sales around the area.
John was also a skilled carpenter, spending several years helping to renovate old farm houses. He could build nearly anything and had a knack for fixing almost everything, always tackling a problem himself before reluctantly calling in a repairman.
Throughout most of his life, fishing was his favorite hobby. He and his family treasured annual trips to Canada in the 1960’s and 1970’s, where he fished for perch, bass, and northern pike. In later years, he enjoyed bass and crappie fishing in Louisiana and Alabama, and often shared amusing fishing stories with family and friends.
He loved his extended family and was always there to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his sense of humor, and his delight in playfully pranking those around him.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 2021. He is survived by his children Robert Egleston of Orlando, Florida, and Kimberly (Egleston) Plunkett (Jeff) of Cooper City, Florida, along with his three grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas and Lauren, who brought him great joy, and by many nieces and nephews.
