Born Margaret Joy Ruth to Marvin and Lucille Caudel Ruth in Georgetown, Kentucky, on July 2, 1938, Joy is survived by her daughter Tamara Coffey, of Frankfort, Kentucky; grandson Jason (Chasity) Coffey, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; granddaughter Caitlin Coffey, of Morehead, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Landon Sexton and Leah Coffey, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and Caleb Cox, of Morehead, Kentucky; and many beloved cousins, friends, and neighbors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Donnie and Tim Coffey, and her brother, Jim Ruth.
Raised in West Liberty, Kentucky, Joy was a 1956 graduate of Morgan County High School; was co-owner of KenWood Pallet Corp. in Helechawa, Kentucky; and retired from United Code Council in Springboro, Ohio. She loved traveling; walking on the beach; camping; boating; square dancing; country music; lighthouses; University of Kentucky basketball; Christmas lights; Hallmark movies; a good sense of humor; her pets; reunions with loved ones; her Eastern Star sisters and brothers; and being surrounded by family and friends. She was a member in good standing of the OES Paulina Chapter 360 in West Liberty, Kentucky, where she received her 50-year pin three years ago, and was raised up in the West Liberty (Kentucky) United Methodist Church. Sidelined by congestive heart failure, in recent years she frequently observed life through her living room window or from a chair on her front porch where she enjoyed watching the wildlife in her yard and waving to neighbors. She especially cherished visits from those neighbors who became her Ohio family.
A private interment will be held at Brown Cemetery in Morehead, Kentucky, and a celebration of life will be planned for the coming summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the American Heart Association and local animal shelters. Arrangements are being handled by Anderson Funeral Homes in Franklin, Ohio, and Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty, Kentucky.
