Kathleen Virginia Hugo

Kathleen “Kay” V. Hugo, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, in Franklin, Ohio. Born on February 11, 1935, in Wilkensburg, Pennsylvania, Kay was a woman known for her kindness, humor, and the welcoming warmth she brought to everyone around her. She devoted her life to creating a loving home, building strong family bonds, and filling her days with joy, creativity, and connection.

Kay graduated from Penn Hills High School, where she proudly served as Captain of the Cheerleading Squad, a role that perfectly matched her spirited personality and natural ability to lift others up. She later married the love of her life, Walter D. Hugo Jr., with whom she shared many decades of devotion, laughter, and family.

A woman of many interests, Kay found joy in ceramics, swimming, tennis, gardening, cooking, reading, and watching old movies. She especially loved sitting on her porch, quietly watching hummingbirds flutter in and out of the flower garden she tended with care. She delighted in decorating her house for every season—especially Christmas. She spent countless hours transforming her home into a holiday wonderland, swapping everyday pictures for festive ones and searching for the perfect fresh-cut tree each year. Friends, family and especially children eagerly awaited her homemade popcorn balls every Halloween, a long time tradition she loved.

Kay’s greatest passion was her family. She was deeply proud of her children and grandchildren and attended their activities with enthusiasm and love. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a personable nature, and a gift for making everyone feel comfortable and welcome. She loved a good party, cherished time with friends and family, and was known for her kindness and generosity.

Kay is survived by her children Jeffrey Hugo (Mary), Dennis Hugo (Leanne), and Joanne Young (Jim); her grandchildren Matthew, Jason, and Alex Hugo, Nichole and Robbie Hugo, Zach, and Josh Young; her great grandchildren: Gabby, Walter, Vivian, Leo and Remi Hugo, Connor, Nolan, Brekken, Ryker and Charlotte Young, and her siblings Dennis O’Connor and Eileen Dapra. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter D. Hugo Jr., her parents David and Edna O’Connor, and her siblings Dorothy, David, and Joseph O’Connor.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 18, 2026, at10:00 AM at Anderson Funeral Home in Franklin, Ohio. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Kay will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery, reunited with her beloved Walter.
