Larry Dale Salyer, 89 of Carlisle, passed away Friday, August 28, 2026. Larry was born May 22, 1937 in White Oak, Kentucky to the late Leonard and Beulah (May) Salyer, also preceding him in death are his sister Geraldine Salyer and brother Lockford Salyer.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory, daughters Marla Salyer, Lisa (Ralph) Salyer, two grandsons, Christopher (Brittany) McFarland, Joseph McFarland, brother Gary (Jean) Salyer, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Larry was a graduate of Morgan County High School (West Liberty, KY) class of 1955, he retired from Mound Laboratories after 30+ years of dedicated service and had worked at WPAFB. Larry was a US Army National Guard and Reserve veteran. He was also the ultimate tinkerer. He was a great mentor to his grandchildren and many others and was well loved by everyone.
Today, I lost my grandfather, and it’s hard to put into words what he meant to me.
He was a great man, a proud military member, a teacher, a fixer, and someone who was always willing to lend a hand. He helped me with countless projects over the years and taught me so many skills—not just how to build, fix, or figure things out, but lessons about life that I’ll carry with me forever.
He was also the ultimate tinkerer. His curiosity and ability to take something apart, understand how it worked, and make it better had a bigger impact on my life than he probably ever realized. That passion is a huge part of what led me into my career and helped shape the person I am today.
So much of what I know, and so much of who I am, carries a piece of him.I’m going to miss the conversations, the projects, the advice, and simply knowing that he was there. I’ll carry his lessons, his example, and his love with me for the rest of my life.
Thank you, Papaw, for everything you taught me and everything you gave me. I hope I can continue to make you proud.
Rest easy, Papaw. You will never be forgotten.
