With her loving family by her side, Margaret Matson peacefully passed into the arms of God on April 2, 2011. A lifelong resident of Monroe, she was the daughter of the late Lena and Robert Matson and sister to the late Edith Matson and Betty Krause. She is survived by her sister, Roberta Pate of Cleveland. She is further survived by nieces Rebecca Kapley Kenneth of Cleveland, Karen Evans John of Erie, PA, Sandra Krause of Las Vegas and Clifton, VA, Susan Hulick Robert of Dallas, TX, and Deborah Krause of Erie. Margaret's extended family comprises 4 generations including grand nieces and grand nephews as well as a great-grand niece and nephew. Her beloved Snowball also survives.
Margaret retired from the Armco Steel Corporation in Middletown after a lifetime of service mainly as the paymaster. Her best-loved role, however, may have been as steward of the land at the family farm off Macready Road, much of which she and her sisters gifted to the Monroe Board of Education when she moved to Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village several years ago.
Although retired from the business and farming communities, Margaret never retired from life. She was an active volunteer at Mt. Pleasant and at her church. She was a beautiful woman who made the world a better place with her kindness. She will be sadly missed by all who have loved her but especially by her nieces for whom she served as a role model for a life well lived.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Monroe Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 9, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Smile Train, 41 Madison Ave., 28th Floor, New York, NY 10010, or to the Gorman Farms Kennel, 2420 Woodsdale Road, Trenton, OH, 45067.
