MARILYN M. CHAPPELL, 81, our much loved mother, nana and aunt, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2011, in Pittsboro, NC, after a brief illness. Marilyn, a long-time Middletown resident, worked more than 25 years at the former First National Bank, and retired to North Carolina in 1993 to fill her days with her family and her needlepoint. She was a better mom and friend than anyone could have, and will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends in Ohio, North Carolina, and elsewhere. Marilyn was born October 28, 1929 in Middletown to Ernest and Elsie Meeker. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1947 and Cleveland Laboratory School in 1948. She married James R. Chappell in 1949. Her parents and her siblings Jack Meeker and Joan Hackney preceded her in death. Marilyn lost her loving husband Jim in 1986 and son John in 1987. She is survived by her son James Chappell of Durham, NC, and his fiancée Jacqueline RedHawk; by her daughter Joan Ross of Pittsboro, NC, and Joanies husband, Bob; and granddaughter Ellen Ross. She has many nephews and nieces and was especially close with nieces Mary Hackney, Jan Martin, and Elaine Williams and a best friend Jackie Rhoads. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 20 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with a memorial service immediately following with Chaplain Karen Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery. Marilyn's son John's remains will be interred with her. Please make contributions to your favorite charity but if you need a suggestion, Marilyn donated to the American Heart Association and various Veterans Groups.
