

Mary Edna Spence Duff, age 96, of Middletown, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Garden Manor Retirement Village. She was born July 31, 1916 in Atkinson, Illinois, the daughter of William A. Harp and Ora Heizer Harp. Mary moved to the Middletown area in 1932 and married Foy Spence in 1933. She was the owner of the local grocery store, The Corner Market and worked at J. C. Penney. She was a member of the Breiel Boulevard First Church of God. Her favorite thing to do was to cook and bake and be around her family. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Johnson-Rogers of Middletown; grandson, Bob Carol Johnson of Indiana; great grandchildren, Jade, Matthew, Erica, Christopher; great great grandchildren, Madison, Braylen, Bryce, Phoenix, Logan, and Rylan; and three sisters, Agnes Etter of Franklin, Lucy Carter of Florida, Juanita Clendenin of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Foy Spence in 1987. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Garden Manor Nursing Home for their loving care. Memorial services will be 6:00 PM Friday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with Dr. Eric Newell officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until service time Friday at the funeral home.
