Johnson, Minnie Belle, age 92, passed away peacefully April 5, 2011, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. She was born on November 16, 1918 in Emporia, Virginia to Reuben and Minnie Belle Wyrick Whitaker. She attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia, and was graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with a Degree in Music. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, was an avid sports fan, loved to sing and play hymns on the piano, and was never happier than when her feet were under a bridge table. Her husband, J. Thomas Johnson died December 9, 1994 after 52 years of a wonderful marriage. Preceding her in death were brothers Morris, Welford and Richard Whitaker; and sisters Louise Davis and Martha Perkins. She is survived and will be greatly missed by sons Jay Carol and Craig Eugenia Johnson; six grandchildren, David Barb Johnson, Julie Rand Hopkins, Meg Tom Sanders, Lesley, Cristen and Madison Johnson; and eight greatgrandchildren, Wyatt, Anna and Kayden Johnson, Seinna and Reid Hopkins, and Gage, Carson and Crew Sanders. When asked about her life, in her lovely southern accent, she would reply "I wouldn't change a thing". A private memorial service will be officiated by the Rev. Michael Vilardo at the Woodside Cemetery gravesite. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care provided by the Doctors, Nurses and Therapists at Atrium Medical Center, Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties, and Mt. Pleasant Rehabilitation Services. Condolences may be sent to the family via our website, [email protected].
