Born on January 27th 1934, in Jackson Kentucky. Fern was one of eleven children born to Tom Lee and Molly (Walters) Holbrook of Jackson, Kentucky. She had five sisters, Bess, Lou, Gladys, Vernona and Nora Lee. Five brothers, Gordon, Luther, Norman, Albert and J.M.
At the age of sixteen she married the love of her life, Junior Ray Martin of Jackson, Kentucky and they moved to Middletown, Ohio where he would find work with the Interstate Folding Box Company for 16 years. At the age of 17, ready to deliver her first son, Jerry, she decided to go back to Kentucky to be with her mother for the event. Jerry was born April 25th 1951 in Jackson, Ky. and in 1958, Jeff was born in Middletown, Oh. April the 11th.
In 1959 they moved to Franklin, Ohio when Junior was hired on at General Motors where he was employed for 26 years before retiring. Members of the Franklin Freewill Baptist Church, they were Pastored by Dencil Owsley, who would perform the Marriage ceremonies for both of their sons. In 2009 Rev. Owsley preached the funeral of Junior who passed on February 27th.
Preceded in death by her mother Molly, her father Tom Lee, brother Gordon, sister Nora Lee, sister Vernona (Rose), sister Bess (Fletcher), and Junior her Husband of 59 years. Survived by her son Jerry and wife Terri (Stewart) of Franklin, son Jeff and wife Judy (Parker) of Franklin, 5 grandchildren, Wendi (Keith) Vinson of Middletown, Jerry D. Martin (Jessie) of Franklin, both children of Jerry; Jeff and Judy Martin’s children, Brandy (Robert) Rigsby of Dayton, Leslie Parker of West Carrollton, David Crane Jr. (Susie) of OrangeCity, FL. Four brothers, Luther (Polly) of Middletown, Norman (Mollie) of Franklin, Albert of Centerville and J.M. (Rae) of Scottsburg IN; 2 sisters, Gladys Stanley of Dayton and Lou (Paul) Griffin of Springboro; 9 great grandchildren, Ryan & Katelyn Martin, Caleb & Jacob Gentry, Cody & Conner Gray,Chloe Bettker, and Tyler & Cadie Crane; and many extended family members and special friends.
All who knew Fern loved her, she had said many times “I think I was born to take care of anyone who comes to me in times of need, family or friend.” She will be greatly missed by all the above and countless others.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Anderson Funeral Homes, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin with Rev. Dencil Owsley, officiating.
