
Richard E. Byrd, age 75, of Middletown, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Sycamore Medical Center, Miamisburg, Ohio. He was born April 19, 1935 in Owensville, Kentucky, the son of Albert Byrd and Lena Murray Byrd. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and then employed at Armco Steel retiring after 40 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the DAV. Richard loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing his guitar, and his blue grass music. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Peggy A. Martin Byrd; one daughter, Susan Kay Byrd of Florence, Kentucky; one son, Timothy Albert wife, Jennifer Byrd of Lynnville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Susan Nicole Bower, Tia Marie Helton, Richard Eric Helton, Thomas Jacob Byrd, Shannon Elizabeth Byrd; four great grandchildren, Daniel Scott Spoonmore, Draven Trent Spoonmore, Olivia Nicole Nickell, Kalob Michael Lee Helton; four sisters, Jean Bausman, Patsy Furrow, Virginia Cox, Geri husband, Sam Dishun; three brothers, Floyd wife, Nancy Byrd, Jim wife, Frances Byrd, Roger wife, Natalie Byrd, and he was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca Byrd; two brothers, Alan and Charlie Byrd; and his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM, Monday at the First Christian Church with the Reverend Laureen A. Roe officiating. Visitation will be 5-8:00 PM, Sunday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.
Burial will be at the Butler County Memorial Park with military honors by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
